Crisium - Hammond M 102 page.

The combination of Hammond and Leslie is one of the most widely used and copied sounds of all time. Nearly every home keyboard and synth has organ presets which are modelled on them.

Hammond M102

The Hammond M102 and Leslie 122 speaker cabinet are a much sought after combination for bands and recording studios. The M100 series of organs share the same tone wheel generator as the larger and much heavier B3 and C3 models.

The tone wheel generator is actualy a complex mechanical construction containing 93 spinning wheels with wavy edges. These wheels produce the sine waves which make the Hammond sound.

The Leslie 122 is a rotating speaker which adds a warm richness to the sound of the Hammond by spreading it throughout the room. There are two speeds - Slow, which adds movement to a fixed sound - and Fast, which whips the sound into a rich tremolo.
