DVD or Video - Analogue Synthesis
The DVD starts with a short tour of some of the worlds rarest and most sought after synths. These were filmed at the Museum of Synthesiser Technology in Hertfordshire, England, (Now closed down) and includes close-ups of a Moog modular, Polyfusion, Roland 700 series and Buchla among others.
After the tour, attention turns to the use of an analogue modular synth. The synthesiser used, is a modern, currently available model (AS 8500) and is demonstrated in conjunction with a MIDI converter. The tutorial is aimed at people who would like to know the basics of what the modules are and how they can be used to make a patch. Patching is very clearly shown throughout the DVD. Subjects covered include: Oscillators - waveforms, tuning, sync, modulation of pitch and waveform etc. Filters - high pass, low pass, band pass, notch, resonance. Envelope Generator - Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release, gate/trigger. Voltage Controlled Amplifier (VCA) - controls and basic uses. Buffers and Inverters - what they are and basic uses. Other Modules - voltage quantisers, scale generators, sequencers delay lines, ring modulators etc. After watching this DVD (or video), you should have the information to produce a sensible and musical sound from your analogue synthesiser and also know how to modify it to your taste. Many current owners claim that they watched several times before realising the amount of information contained in the film. |
